Aaron’s Cuyuna G Series Surly Moonlander

Aaron Hautala is not only a terrific photographer who has some of the most captivating photos on the Fatbike Gallery’s Adventure photos, but he’s the proud owner of a  custom built Surly Moonlander, and the organizer/promoter of the Cuyuna Lakes Whiteout.  Find Aaron’s website here.  Here’s what Aaron has to say about his awesome custom built Moonlander:
The Cuyuna G Series Surly Moonlander is nothing but pure phat fun. The bike builder Peter Gustafson of Trailblazer Bikes in Baxter and I started with the basic bike and built-up adding key components and aesthetic elements to goose the stock bike. The end product is a lighter, visually toothier Moonlander. Which since leaving the bike shop has graced the floor of the Minnesota State Capital, performed live on Channel 5 Minneapolis/St. Paul, been featured in the St. Paul Pioneer Press, assisted at a keynote address at a regional tourism summit, and wowed thousands of fairgoers at the great Minnesota get-together, the 2012 Minnesota State Fair.  Not only is the bike a gas to take on PR trips when promoting the Cuyuna Lakes, it’s even more a joy to ride. Whether in the snow, sand, or red dirt single track, this fat bike forgets it’s fat enormously fat. Like a hot knife through butter it slices, dices, and brings a joy to not only the rider, but those around it.
Thanks to Aaron for sharing these photos and the story of this Moonlander – it’s a true exploration vehicle for Aaron.

Andy’s Salsa Mukluk Ti Singlespeed

The beautiful fatbike above was submitted by Fatbike Gallery reader Andy O.  Andy built this titanium Salsa Mukluk as his all purpose fatbike for covering every type of riding he wants to do.  He mentions that this build allows him to switch gears (note the double chainring and double cog set-up), it has hand-polished Race Face cranks, a ti Crupi bmx seat (Andy’s a former bmx racer), Easton carbon bars, and a very unique single lever brake set up (one brake lever controls the two 185mm rotor disc brakes).  As you can see, this is a beautiful bike, and Andy certainly focused on the details.   We should also mention that Andy credits Tobie and the good folks at North Central Cyclery in DeKalb, IL for helping him pull this bike together, and he mentions he found FatbikeGallery.com through www.Fat-bike.com.  Thanks for sharing the photos of this awesome build Andy.  Ride on!

Alan’s Military-themed Pugsley

The Military-inspired Pugsley shown here is the proud creation of Fatbike Gallery reader Alan P.  Alan indicates it started it’s life as a stock 2012 Pugsley Snowblind fatbike, although that may not be obvious given its custom color and transformation.  Features include: custom powder coating, Hope Pro EVO rear hub, Brooks Champion Standard B17 saddle, Surly rear rack.  If you can’t wait to build one yourself, note that Alan’s is for sale (he posted it on PinkBike.com under California XC bikes). Alan has certainly made his Pugsley unique!
